frequently asked questions

How much does orthodontic treatment cost?

Our fees are dictated by the complexity of each patient’s desired tooth movements. Fees will vary from under $3,000 for limited express or re-treatment case to over $6,000 for complex cases. At Veil & Wild Orthodontics, Invisalign is NOT more expensive than traditional braces. We believe it is important to remove the financial barrier of Invisalign vs. braces and allow the patient to decide which treatment is best for their lifestyle.

Many dental insurance plans will include orthodontic coverage which will usually cover a portion of orthodontic treatment. If your insurance covers braces, it likely also covers Invisalign.

What is orthodontics?

By definition, orthodontics is the dental speciality of straightening teeth and correcting malocclusions (bites). However, at Veil and Wild Orthodontics we believe it is much more than that. Our philosophy is more of a holistic approach in which we evaluate, diagnosis, and make recommendation based off more than teeth and bite alignment. The doctors have additional training and experience in cranio-facial anomalies such as cleft lip&palate, myofunctional orthodontics, habit cessation (digit sucking), and sleep apnea.
Dr. Veil and Dr. Wild place equal emphasis and importance on esthetics and function. The goal of orthodontic treatment is twofold; 1) to create a smile that generates lifelong confidence and 2) align the teeth and bite to minimize accelerated tooth wear and breakdown that can occur over time with chewing and for some patients night-time clenching & grinding.

What is the difference between traditional metal braces and Invisalign aligners?

Traditional metal braces move your teeth through individual brackets (braces) that are temporarily bonded to the front surface of each tooth. A series of wires are used to apply pressure to your teeth by engaging into the brackets (braces). These wires are changed and/or re-activated every 4-6 weeks in the orthodontic office.
Invisalign moves your teeth through a series of removable plastic trays (aligners). Each aligner is worn for a week before changing to the next aligner. Aligners are to be worn 18-20 hours a day, only removing to eat meals and to brush and floss your teeth. An orthodontist creates a digital Invisalign treatment plan for each individual patient following a digital scan (digital impression) of your teeth. Once this treatment plan becomes finalized digitally, all aligner sets are manufactured and delivered to your orthodontist’s office for disbursement.

How does Invisalign work?

Invisalign can be equally as effective in treating a variety of orthodontic problems as traditional braces. At Veil and Wild Orthodontics, our doctors expertise and experience in treating Invisalign patients have led to a designation of being Top 1% Invisalign Providers in the world. This means you are receiving Invisalign treatment from doctors who will deliver the very best results in the fastest and more efficient manner.

Which treatment is the best, Braces or Invisalign?

At Veil and Wild Orthodontics, both Dr. Veil and Dr. Wild have extensive training and experience in treating a variety of cases with both braces and Invisalign. The doctors feel that most patients can be treated just as effectively and in the same time frame with either appliance. Patients that come to Veil and Wild Orthodontics are investing their time and money into a desired result and the maintenance of that result over time. They are not paying for the tool or appliance (braces or Invisalign). Dr. Veil and Dr. Wild will guide each individual patient through the advantages and disadvantages of braces and Invisalign as it pertains to their individual treatment needs and lifestyle.

If I get braces, how long do I have to wear them?

The length of your orthodontic treatment and time wearing braces or Invisalign is dependent on the complexity of your desired tooth movement. Minor or limited tooth movement can be accomplished in a few months while more extensive and complex tooth movement can take 2-3 years to complete.

At your initial complimentary consultation, Dr. Veil or Dr. Wild will review your orthodontic needs and specific treatment. A specified treatment duration will also be given associated with your treatment goals.

Compliance during either braces or Invisalign treatment is necessary to keep treatment on track and on time. Inconsistency with routine office visits, rubber band wear, hygiene, and breakage can significantly slow down tooth movement and add months to treatment length.

Am I too old for braces?

You are never too old for braces or Invisalign. Tooth movement can be just as successful in older adults as it is in young teenage kids. The bone biology response to tooth movement is the same at any age. At Veil and Wild Orthodontics, the doctors will examine your tooth supporting tissues (bone and gum support) and determine if they are healthy enough to undergo orthodontic treatment.

When can my child get braces?

The American Association of Orthodontics recommends that children receive their first orthodontic evaluation at age 7. Most children do not require early intervention at this young of an age. However, it is very important to identify those specific problems that need early correction. Failure to do so can lead to a worsening of the condition over time making it either more difficult to correct later or an ideal result unattainable. At Veil and Wild Orthodontics, the majority of our early intervention does not include correction with braces, but instead focuses on proper growth and development of the jaws. If we can help facilitate proper jaw development at a young age it will make braces treatment in the teenage years more simplified and shorter in duration. Every child is different but if speaking in generalities most children will get braces when they are losing their last couple baby teeth. We find that many children will benefit from starting braces just prior to having all of their permanent or adult teeth erupted.
